App of the Week: Buycott →
Buycott Inc. App Name: Buycott Price: Free Available Platforms: iOS What does this app do? Chances are you like to know what’s in the food you eat and where the money you pay to buy that food goes. For instance, those tomatoes from the grocery store may come from a manufacturer that supports genetically modified foods, and you may not want any part of that. Ivan Pardo, a 26-year-old Los...

It is Devils Churn on US 101. Every Christmas we head to the Sea Lion Caves near Florence and stop by here and the Spouting Horn.

Appreciation...
This year has had a lot of hardships for me so far. It has left me stressed and sad but also with a sense of appreciation.
The latest fiasco is the water main to our apartment exploding. It is stressful but it has made me appreciate that hot bath a lot more and realize how many times I casually walk to the sink and turn on the faucet.
My husband losing his job has made him consider what he...

New App Lets You Boycott Koch Brothers, Monsanto... →
A new app allows you to scan a product in the supermarket aisle and learn who exactly is behind that box of cereal. More impressively, you can join user-created campaigns to boycott groups of companies who may have lobbied against a cause you believe in.

Mount Saint Helens
I realized that the photo I posted yesterday was appropriately timed. It will be the 33 year anniversary of the May 18th 1980 eruption of Mount Saint Helens soon. The mountain is beautiful, wild, and dangerous. I feel so lucky to have been able to photograph it up close and personal.

This isn’t a post I want to write, but it’s a post I need to write because I know it can help someone. I’ll try to keep the details about me to a minimum, but I’m about to get all personal.
First, you need to know that I’m extremely introverted and I smile a lot. If I have a problem I like to…
This is a fantastic read. I have also done the mood cure and swear by it. I...

The Worst Thing Ever...
The worst thing ever happened on the way home tonight. A gigantic beetle hit our car, ricocheted off my husband’s face spewing baby beetles all over his arm and then proceeded to disappear in the back of the car for 15 min still healthy and ready to bore into our skin and suck out our living essence at a moment’s notice.
Thankfully we stopped for coffee, found it and got it out of the...

Terrarium Project
Thanks for all the feedback on how to grow moss. The glass for my terrarium has been shipped and I have some really neat ideas. I would like to try and find a nice sample of Trametes wood mushrooms and Pilophorus acicularis someday. I think they are beautiful. This is going to be so cool.
